Why Choose This Bhutan Motorcycle Tour?
Ride some of the most spectacular mountain roads in the Bhutan Himalayas, including sweeping bends, dramatic hairpin turns, peaceful forest routes and high-altitude mountain passes. The journey offers a constantly changing riding experience as you travel across western, central and eastern Bhutan.
The Thimphu Tshechu is the central cultural highlight of this motorcycle expedition. A full day is dedicated to experiencing the festival on 11 October 2027, giving you the opportunity to witness traditional masked dances, Buddhist religious performances, elaborate costumes, traditional music and the colourful gathering of Bhutanese communities.
Hike to the legendary Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest, dramatically perched on a cliff above the Paro Valley. The monastery is one of Bhutan’s most sacred Buddhist sites and one of the most recognisable landmarks in the Himalayas.
Ride across some of Bhutan’s spectacular mountain passes, including Chele La, Dochula, Thrumshingla and Korila. Each pass offers a different landscape, ranging from alpine forests and high mountain ridges to sweeping valleys and spectacular Himalayan scenery.
Visit remarkable fortress-monasteries including Punakha Dzong and Trongsa Dzong. These impressive structures provide a fascinating insight into Bhutan’s history, Buddhist traditions, architecture and centuries-old system of governance.
Experience the peaceful beauty of Phobjikha Valley, one of Bhutan’s most scenic high-altitude valleys. Surrounded by pine forests, traditional villages and rolling mountain landscapes, Phobjikha provides a beautiful contrast to Bhutan’s winding Himalayan roads.
Go beyond the classic western Bhutan circuit and continue through Bumthang, Mongar, Trashigang and Samdrup Jongkhar. Eastern Bhutan offers quieter roads, remote communities, dramatic mountain scenery and an opportunity to experience parts of the country visited by comparatively fewer international travellers.
Stop at Namling Waterfall during the journey between Bumthang and Mongar. Surrounded by lush mountain vegetation, the waterfall provides an excellent location for photographs, refreshments and a short break during one of the expedition’s most scenic riding days.
One of the remarkable features of this expedition is the dramatic transformation in landscape and climate. Ride from cool high-altitude mountain passes and dense Himalayan forests to the warmer, greener subtropical valleys of southeastern Bhutan.
Throughout the expedition, encounter traditional Bhutanese villages, Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags, historic dzongs and distinctive local architecture. Travelling across Bhutan by motorcycle provides a unique opportunity to experience the country’s culture, people and landscapes in a more immersive way.
This journey combines Bhutan’s famous western destinations, the cultural heartland of central Bhutan and the remote landscapes of the east into one complete motorcycle expedition. Starting from Bagdogra in India, the journey crosses Bhutan from west to east before finishing at Guwahati Airport in India.
