Itinerary

Arrive at Bagdogra Airport, where you'll be warmly received by our team. There will be no riding today. From the airport, you'll be transferred by vehicle to Phuntsholing, the Bhutanese border town. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax. In the evening, take a leisurely walk through the vibrant local markets, soaking in the traditional Bhutanese architecture and the calm atmosphere of this charming gateway town.

After breakfast, climb steadily into sub-tropical hills before descending into the verdant Paro Valley. Stop at Gedu University for panoramic views of terraced fields. Arrive in Paro for lunch, then visit Kyichu Lhakhang—one of Bhutan’s oldest temples—and Ta Dzong, now the National Museum, to view centuries-old thangkas and royal artifacts. Conclude with a guided tour of Paro Rinpung Dzong, perched above the valley, before dinner and overnight in Paro.

Rise before dawn for the 2–3 hr hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Pass through cedar forests and prayer wheels, arriving at the cliff-side complex for meditation and views. Descend in 60–90 minutes, then mount your Enfield and ride the scenic road to Chele La Pass (optional), standing at 3,988 m. In the afternoon, continue to Thimphu, stopping at the colossal 51 m Great Buddha Dordenma. Overnight in the capital.

Depart early and ascend the Dochu La Pass (3,140 m), adorned with 108 colorful chortens and panoramic Himalayan vistas. Descend into the fertile Punakha Valley for lunch and a tour of Punakha Dzong, nestled between two rivers. In the afternoon, ride through rhododendron forests into the Gangtey (Phobjikha) Valley. Check into your lodge overlooking the glacial valley and stroll the wetlands where black-necked cranes winter.

After breakfast, cross the Yotong La Pass en route to the fortified Trongsa Dzong, which commands a rocky ridge above the Mangde River. Enjoy lunch with dzong views, then continue over Pele La Pass on your descent toward Chendebji Chorten. Rejoin your Enfield for the final leg into Bumthang Valley, the spiritual heartland of Bhutan. Arrive late afternoon, stroll Chamkhar town, and overnight in Bumthang.

Depart before sunrise for the epic Thrimshing La Pass (3,780 m), Bhutan’s second-highest motorable road. Navigate technical switchbacks through alpine meadows, then descend past Namling Falls, a dramatic waterfall cascading beside the highway. Continue through the national park’s rhododendron forests to reach Mongar, eastern Bhutan’s cultural hub. Evening at leisure in Mongar town.

Climb steadily to Korila Pass (2,450 m), bordered by fluttering prayer flags. Descend into Yadi valley, then tackle the famed zigzag hairpin road leading to Trashigang. En route, stop to photograph panoramic views of the Ranjung monastery. In Trashigang, explore the 17th-century Trashigang Dzong perched above town, then relax at your lodge.

Depart early and descend through Wamrong’s pine forests, then ride into subtropical Dewathang. Stop for lunch before continuing to Samdrup Jongkhar, Bhutan’s southeastern gateway. On arrival, complete border formalities and settle into your hotel. In the evening, explore the vibrant bazaar and sample local delicacies along the river.
